THE DEVELOPMENT
What happened
Both company announcements: October 6, 2026.
GoNetspeed announced an initial $23 million private investment in Haverhill, Massachusetts, with construction expected in 2027 and customers connected progressively. It describes a prospective reach of more than 17,500 residents and businesses. Separately, Shentel completed fiber-to-the-home upgrades in Buchanan, Virginia, making its fiber network available to approximately 1,000 homes and businesses in Buchanan and Botetourt County. Neither coverage figure is a subscriber count.
PREMIA VIEW
Why it matters
Haverhill creates a prospect for permitting, engineering and construction suppliers. Buchanan offers a different test: converting an upgraded network into retained customers, incremental revenue and efficient support. Acquirers should evaluate these stages separately when assessing backlog and growth forecasts.
WHAT REMAINS UNCERTAIN
Haverhill’s contract awards and completion schedule; Buchanan’s adoption, upgrade spending and incremental returns.
DECISION QUESTIONS
Three questions stakeholders should answer now.
- 01Which Haverhill work packages are funded and available?
- 02What conversion assumptions support each local business case?
- 03How will installation and support capacity scale?
WHAT TO WATCH
What to watch next
Haverhill procurement and permitting; Buchanan customer adoption and service performance.
